Finished the first painted study for "Navy Pier Ferris Wheel". Just after midnight. Painted with brushes, used a lot of white and a little violet so it has a pastel feel to it. But the building on the side is a little large, the road on the bottom is too solid.

I need to go to Skyview to draw the ferris wheel from there as well as go to Navy Pier to take photo's from the ground and other area's to get more views. I could go to Skyview with a telephoto lens on the camera to bring the Pier in closer, to give myself a more confined look to the photos.

So after weeks of agonizing I finished a painted study last night of a Ferris Wheel. I getting ready to do another right now. Tomorrow I plan on going to Navy Pier and shooting some video of the ferris wheel there. Mainly I'm looking to figure out the background. You know the ferris wheel was invented in Chicago, (I think for the Columbia exhibition of 1892). So I want to get this together for the next show in April, "American Icons". It works I think, it serendipitous that I'm working on this image and it fits the show. See ya in the next two days. I've been thinking of buying a digital camera, but I really need to get out of debt first. CSK

Did some more charcoal drawings tonight and sketched out another version of the ferris wheel at a different angle. Now I'm getting ready to paint it.

Finished the second painted study for "N.P. Ferris Wheel", this version with a view of the city behind the ferris wheel instead of in front.
On Saturday I went to Navy Pier and video taped some footage of the Ferris Wheel and other things around there. On the way back I taped a church steeple that is under repair and has some cool looking scaffolding around it. I plan on doing a painting of that too. I've done some charcoal drawings from the video tape, 4 of the ferris wheel, 1 of the steeple and 1 of a palm tree that was inside Navy Pier. I don't have anyway of digitizing video footage, but I'm not keen on spending money. CSK

The 3 backgrounds seemed dry last night. I was too tired and feeling a little ill so I didn't do any work on the paintings. The third painting is going to be of the Church Steeple that is being repaired on North Ave. near the Ravenswood El stop.

Worked on the paintings last night. Very close to finished. I'm waiting for the paint to dry and to add more white to the Ferris Wheel spokes, some of the red from the carriages mixed in with the white and needs to be fixed. I'm not happy with one of them, the one with the Ferris wheel in front. I colored in the steeple with a dark blue-green-violet. After it is dry i will go over it with a brick red. Not until all that is done will I add the scaffolding that is the key to why I like the image in the first place. Today I went to Skyview and taped the Ferris Wheel at Navy Pier from a high angle. I hope to draw that image in charcoal this evening. That leaves only getting the image from the LSD and the tent covering the carousel that Moskow's employers built.

I tried to draw from the tape last night but the battery on the camcorder ran out on me before I could do anything. I only got a brief glimpse of the footage before it died on me. I hope I can do something with it. I might have better luck with the other, as yet unshot, angle.
